Spotlight: Jeremy Bilas 2

April 10, 2009

Welcome back, folks! Wednesday we chatted with Jeremy Bilas, Game Developer at PopCap Games. But we’re not finished with him! Not by a Long Shot!

Bjorn Unicorn: So which is better: Peggle or Peggle Nights?

Jeremy Bilas: Ah, Peggle Nights, obviously.

B: Oh yeah? Why’s that?

J: Well, it’s got plus one Master.

B: Ah, well, that’s true, that’s true.

J: And a good Master at that.

B: Yep. Anything else?

J: Uh… I’m really kind of partial to the music, and some of the special effects that we put into it are really nice. Plus you get new shiny trophies and a fancy credits screen at the end.

B: I’ll say! Okay, here’s a more controversial question: who is your favorite Peggle Master?

J: Hmmm…

B: And there is a right answer to this.

J: You know, I know it’s not extremely popular, but I’d have to go with Tula. She’s always been there for me. Tula is always a very strong, a very reliable master, she always is able to provide the pegs that you need, when you need them, and it’s up to you to choose how to use them.

B: Yes, Tula’s a great Master. Maybe not quite as good as some unicorns I know, but she is very good.

J: Uh huh.

B: Now, it must be very difficult for you to make Peggle levels without the magical senses of snell and zearing. How do you compensate?

J: Um… I try to channel as much energy as I can out of the many Masters that I frequently commune with through various parts of the magic code that drives the system.

B: Huh! That makes a surprising amount of sense! And finally, do you have any ideas I can rip off for Peggle 2?

J: Oh, that’s all secret, top secret.

B: Oh come on. Not even one?

J: Um… that you can rip off? How about a fancy new level editor?

B: Fancy new editor! All right! Sounds good! Thanks Jeremy!
