Welcome back, folks! Yesterday we chatted with Matt Johnston, Senior Producer at PopCap Games. Today we’re still chatting with him!

B: Who’s your favorite Peggle Master?
M: I’m gonna have to go with Warren on that one. I like the Magic Hat, I like the cool gambling aspect of not knowing what I’m gonna get, and then, you know, who can argue with Triple Score?
B: Warren’s power is slightly different between Peggle Nights and Peggle. Does the DS use the Peggle Nights version of the power?
M: Yes. We put the majority of the upgrades and extra style shots that we worked into Nights, we put in the DS product.
B: Nice. So, have you considered the possibility that someone will just do nothing but play Peggle, stop feeding themselves and starve to death?
M: I thought we’d talked about not talking about this, Bjorn. I mean, if the marketing people find out about the potential damage and disruption that this particular portable version of Peggle could possibly cause, the game may never come out.
B: Well, I think it’ll come out regardless.
M: In that case I think the overwhelming joy that the game brings to the world will overcome any potential negative side effects.
B: I agree! Now tell me, what was the funnest, most rainbow-filled thing about working on this project?
M: I’m gonna have to say combing the nits out of your tail was probably… well, that was probably the second most fun. The first most fun thing was seeing the bonus underground go from giant question mark in our minds in terms of whether or not it was gonna be fun, and work, and all that stuff, to getting down and dirty and figuring out a way to make that a fun part of the game and tie it into the overall game scoring structure. All those things were real problems, they were difficult to solve, but it was really cool working through all that stuff and getting something fun at the end.
B: Sounds good! Thanks, Matt!
